After many years travelling and working abroad we began to think about somewhere more permanent to live. After searching and researching different countries we found La Atalaya (the watchtower) in the uplands of Andalucia. The situation of the property and the panoramic views it enjoys are truly magical. The openness, generosity and kindness of Andalucian people make this an ideal place to live. For the same reasons it is a perfect place for rest, recuperation and recreation.
La Atalaya nestles in verdant olive groves in the hills above the small village of Ermita Nueva. Within walking distance are two excellent well stocked shops and two friendly restaurant bars serving tapas. More generally, the locality is ideal for walking, cycling, bird watching, painting and photography. The market town of Alcala la Real is very close with colourful shops, a lively weekly market, restaurants and historical sites such as the fortress, La Mota. Locally produced foods include extra virgin olive oil, cheese and wine.
The central location of La Atalaya is perfect for exploring coastal and inland Andalucia. To help plan your trip see the What to do section for ideas for when to come and what to see in Andalucia. Your hosts Shiona and Mike look forward to welcoming you and making your stay both pleasurable and memorable. We are on hand to help with information and directions in English, Hungarian and German.
